Where Is My Bicycle
03:53
|
|||
I want to ride my old bike again
Down the same streets I did as a kid
But where is my bicycle and where are all my friends?
Those days we played outside, why did they have to end?
Where is my bicycle?
Mike lived next door and every summer day
We played baseball but when his mom's away
We rode his motorbikes through hoops of burning flames
When the grass caught fire, you know who got the blame.
So, where is my bicycle?
You're somewhere in the dark
Of my father's old garage
Your chains are rusted through
But I know there's miles left inside of you
My best friend Jamie lived so far away
I took my ten speed to get to his each day
And flew through car washes and empty parking lots
We played Galaxian and break danced like robots
So, where is my bicycle?
So, where is my bicycle?
Tommy and Toby, Jeff and Joe
Our moms are calling
Dinner is on and it's time to go home
The night is falling

Fourteen Again
03:48
|
|||
Well, I walked in a man
And in a five-second span
She had me dancing like a junior high school boy
To Duran Duran
And it made me feel fourteen again
We went out for a smoke
And she laughed at my jokes
But when I tried to sound sexy and manly
That was when my voice broke
And it made me feel fourteen again
I'm fourteen again
I'm fourteen again
I'm fourteen again
In 1984
When half the world was at war
I was fighting my own battle with hormones
Slow dancing on the gym floor
Oh she makes me feel fourteen again
With my Nike high tops
And my floppy brown mop
I'll teach you how to moonwalk in circles
At the Christmas sock hop
Oh she make me feel fourteen again
I'm fourteen again
I'm fourteen again
I'm fourteen again
We could breakdance in your basement
Rap along to Grandmaster Flash
Bring along some linoleum flooring
So we can spin round on our backs
Now it's happened again
The dance has come to an end
And the girl who was laughing at my jokes
Is now kissing my friend
And it makes me feel fourteen again

I spent a summer out in Denver
I was just 13, she was 12
She wrote me a letter on loose-leaf paper
Written on blue lines just for me
We wrote through the summer, and in December
She send me a photograph and a tape
With songs from the Beatles and from the Eagles
She said 'Desperado' reminded her of me
1985 was the year
She went to dances and had romances
Dressed in the finest silk that I had ever seen
While I just stayed at home in my K mart jeans
Last to be chosen for Junior Varsity
1986 was the year
Then in December, another letter:
Her dad had just lost his job on the board
Her family were moving up, up to Michigan
And I could finally, get to see, the girl that I adored
1987 was the year (Yeah...)
So I asked her to the dance, and she said yes
She wore the finest dress that I had ever seen
And when it was over, and I moved closer
She asked, 'Is there anything?' And I just said, 'nothing.'
1988 was the year (Yeah...)
Now we're both older, the world seems colder
We send out photographs for everyone to like
But I liked us better in argyle sweaters
Setting out upon our Rocky Mountain hike
1985 was the year (Yeah...)

Jamie
03:25
|
|||
I don't think I should go to the party
There are people there I know who hate me
And I know you think they're cool
Cause they're popular at school
But don't take me, Jamie
You say, 'it will be fine, just trust me'
Say that I don't know their kind, 'just trust me'
But by the time I get downstairs, Mark has got me by the hair
Come and save me, Jamie
I wanna go home
I wanna go home
I wanna go home
Home, home
He grabs me by the shirt and says 'sing to me'
And so I push him back to save dignity
And the next thing that I see is them staring down at me
Come and save me, Jamie
I wanna go home
I wanna go home
I wanna go home
Home, home

Something In The Music
04:12
|
|||
It was the summer of 1985
I was drinking a coke and feeling half alive
And painting my room to the sounds of Terence Trent D'Arby
When you came through the door with a tape in your hand
We fell through into a foreign land
The flat, fantastic world of Thomas Dolby
And something in the music made us see
We weren't freaks, we were free
And moving on to something more than this
Weren't we, Chris?
So we both dressed in black and you platted your hair
You tried eyeliner, but I never dared
I just held my chin up high like I was Morrissey
And the older punk kids started calling us names
Threw pennies at us but we were unashamed
We just wore each one like a soldier dons a medal
And something in the music made us see
We weren't freaks, we were free
And moving on to something more than this...
Looking back now, was it all just a phase
Those clove cigarettes, fishnets and hairspray
And girls with eyes like Siouxie of the Banshees
But then a song comes out on the radio
That opened our ears so many years ago
And I know the music is still a part of me.
And something in the music made us see
We weren't freaks, we were free
And moving on to something more than this
Weren't we, Chris?

The day that I land in Amsterdam
My life will begin again
I'll wave my goodbyes to Uncle Sam
And meet the Parisians
I will wake up to the bells of the cathedral
And open up my window to the square
I will climb up every step of every steeple
And dance upon the roof like Fred Astaire
The day that I land in Amsterdam
My life will begin to again
Bicycle, boats and morning trams
Will take me across the land
I will dress like Ferris Beuller on his day off
And meet my Mia Sara on the Seine
All those dismal days of sweeping will have paid off
I will my letters with a fountain pen
The day that I land in Amsterdam
I'll no longer be
The simpleton you see
The boy who hides his eyes
In shame
On those cobbled streets
Under canopies of trees
Something inside me
Will change

1989
02:50
|
|||
We've been talking a long time now
About playing in the talent show
But we've done nothing but lie around
So get your sticks, Chris, it's time to go
Cause I know a couple songs we could try
That only have about three chords
With Joel on guitar, Mike on the keys
We'll floor them
I'm not saying that I can sing
But I can kind of hold a tune
My little brother can play the bass
He's been learning it all afternoon
Now we've only got another eight weeks
Before the Battle of the Bands
So tell me do you want to take a stand?
This is the year we've got to make it happen
1989
Or waste our days away in vegetation
1989
Cause this school just wants to kick us sideways
This school just kicks us in the teeth
So tell me, boys, what do you all believe?
I've had a quick look at the other band
And they're flashier than Motley Crue
Their lead guitarist's got a faster hand
But he wears make up and a lame hairdo
And the only really bad news
Is that Jo-Jo's banging on their drums
But with Joel on guitar, Douglas on lead
We'll floor them
This is the year we've got to make it happen
1989
Or waste our days away in vegetation
1989
Cause this school just wants to kick us sideways
This school just kicks us in the teeth
So tell me, boys, what do you all believe?
This is the year we've got to make it happen
1989
Or waste our days away in vegetation
1989
Cause this school just wants to kick us sideways
So let's kick it back before we leave
So tell me, boys, what do you all believe?

Elodie
03:02
|
|||
I keep waiting for a sign
That maybe you will come back to me
Oh, come back to me
Elodie
Someone come and save me
I've been going crazy over you
Tell me what can I do
Elodie
Oh, don't go and waste my time
Don't make me lose my mind
I can take a train to
New York Central Station to be with you
Oh, if you want me to
Elodie
All the things you said
when lying here in bed, did they mean a thing
Or was I just a fling
Elodie
Oh, don't go and waste my time
Don't make me lose my mind
Oh, Elodie, Elodie, Elodie
Oh, Elodie, Elodie, Elodie
Oh, don't go and waste my time
Don't make me lose my mind
I keep waiting for a sign that maybe you will come back to me
Oh, come back to me
Elodie

Bethany
Brought out the very best in me
Then dumped me on my birthday
When I was having fun
And Hillary
Had a boyfriend in the military
I said, 'Think I could take him?'
She said, 'He has a gun.'
Don't give your heart to anyone
Don't give your heart to anyone
You've got to keep it for yourself
Yourself and everybody else
Julio
Got my sister into Coolio
But though she did meet gangsters
It was hardly paradise
And Adonis
Was oh so very honest
He declared every detail
But his baby and his wife
Don't give your heart to anyone
Don't give your heart to anyone
You've got to keep it for yourself
Yourself and everybody else
You used to be so strong
Until he came along
Now you're a bird without a song
Tell me I'm wrong
Don't give your heart to anyone
Don't give your heart to anyone
You've got to keep it for yourself
Yourself and everybody else
Don't stand out in the rain
Waiting for her again
Umbrellas were not made for two
Sorry it's true
Don't give your heart to anyone
Don't give your heart to anyone
You've got to keep it for yourself
Yourself and everybody else

Our Holidays Behind Us
04:24
|
|||
When you and I are older
We'll live out by the sea
So we can get up early
Just to have our morning tea
The dogs will come up to us
And jump up on our knees
Our holidays behind us
It's where we'll want to be
When your dad was a young man
He sailed the seven seas
He rode his motorcycle
From Tunis to Tripoli
He wrote home to his sweetheart
Slept underneath the trees
The open road before him
Was all that he could see
The open road before him
Was all that he could see
Now I'm not asking for a tall ship
Or a star to sail her by
All I need's another minute inside
The winter sea green of your eyes
A jazz quartet is playing
A concert in the square
But we can't hear the music
We just can't be there
I'd rather hear you singing
I'd rather hold your hand
Our holidays behind us
This is our chosen land
Our holidays behind us
This is our chosen land
Now I'm not asking for a tall ship
Or a star to sail her by
All I need's another minute inside
The winter sea green of your eyes
But now the sea is frozen
The boats stay in the bay
Forever now is broken
Into months and weeks and days
'I love you more than ever'
Is all I think to say
Our holidays behind us
It's where I want to stay
Our holidays behind us
It's where I want to stay

A Girl On Her Way
03:48
|
|||
Pick me up, put me down, it's OK
Lift me up, spin me round, walk away
Cause I'm old enough to notice the score
And I know you want to see me no more
Pick me up, put me down, it's OK
Take me up, take me down, it's OK
Build me up, bring me down, drift away
Cause I'm old enough to know what's in store
But I'm slow enough to hope for some more
Pick me up, put me down, it's OK
What kind of guy cries 'Hurry back!'
To a girl who is on her way
Or stands there waving from the tracks
To the girl when the world is calling her
To a better life in a better place he can't be
To the open sky above her
The mountains and the plains
To the small towns on the seaside
The deserts and the rains
Falling softly on a rooftop of a little house he'll never see
Pick me up and put me down
Pick me up and put me down
Pick me up and put me down
It's OK

Stay Afloat
04:58
|
|||
I had a dream I was lost at sea
Surrounded by my life's debris
By baseball bats and Star Wars cards
And apple trees from our backyard
I rowed a raft of photographs
That trapped the laughs we used to have
And floating out there on the sea
Was every note you wrote to me
Woah oh oh, woah oh oh, woah - oh
I'm still afloat on this sinking boat
On this sinking boat
I'm still afloat on this sinking boat
On this sinking boat
I'm still afloat.
On my bicycle banana seat
I paddled through my old trophies
And on bolo ties and rosaries
I prayed no one would rescue me
My first transistor radio
Was still a shade of bright yellow
And every tune it played for me
Was Top 10 Christmas '83
Woah oh oh, woah oh oh, woah - oh
I'm still afloat on this sinking boat
On this sinking boat
I'm still afloat on this sinking boat
On this sinking boat
I'm still afloat.
With pop-up binoculars in my hand
I set my sights upon the land
And though I was hoping to drift some more
A voice came calling from the shore
It said, "Wake up Daddy and play with me
That Star Wars game on PS3.
And don't forget you promised me
To teach me how to climb a tree."
Woah oh oh, woah oh oh, woah - oh
I had a dream I was lost at sea
